Senior Yoga Teacher
Cilica, BA, BSYA
My personal journey is to embrace nature and the senses into the context of classical yoga. When yoga comes alive; our mind awakens, we hear and feel our bodies in our ever changing surroundings. It is in the development of our senses that human nature blossoms.
I have always instinctively meditated and am in the moment (most of the time) and spirituality is a way of life. It is through continued exploration of yoga asanas, meditation and pranayama that my physical presence becomes inspiring and empowering.
As an intuitive instructor, I encourage personal interpretations of postures meditations, and philosophies, while preserving asanas’ alignment and integrity. Her approach is mischievous, encouraging individual body shapes, abilities, and mindsets to simply be. I challenge each participant to see themselves anew, while conscious that each is already perfect.
In 2007 my yoga studies took me to Aranmula, Kerala in Southern India for 4 months where I increased knowledge of Classical Yoga, received daily instruction in Kathakali, Carnatic Chants and Song, Ayurveda Medicine and Southern Indian Cooking and Culture.
I hold a Traditional Hatha Yoga and Chakra Yoga certificates from Grace Broughton, British School of Yoga, in the lineages of Krishnamacharya and his son, teacher Desikachar. Though my initial yoga studies began in Vancouver, B.C. I have studied in the U.K., Europe and Asia.
In addition to valuing the knowledge of mentors, apprenticing, and self-study, I learn by doing, observing and absorbing what I need. My mentors include Buddhist Monk, Reverend Kōten Benson, Lions Gate Buddhist Priory and Swami in Aranmula, Kerala India.
I have an advanced degree in music composition/voice, and extensively studies cultural vocal forms and communications. I specialize in experimental and new music/voice techniques in which I amalgamate my knowledge and studies into my facilitating and mentoring.
